About us

GERMAN ENGINEERING, BUILT AROUND YOUR PROCESS

For more than 70 years, Upmann has developed weighing, packaging and processing technology for customers in Germany and international markets.

Our experience has taught us that every product, production facility and business objective is different. That is why we do not begin with a standard machine. We begin by understanding the customer’s operation: the product, capacity, available space, existing equipment, packaging requirements and future plans.

Based on this analysis, we develop individual machines, automated production sections and complete solutions adapted to real production conditions.

A high level of in-house engineering, mechanical and electrical design, manufacturing, assembly and commissioning enables us to maintain consistent quality and coordinate every stage of the project.

For complete production lines, we also work with specialised technology partners, integrating complementary systems into one coordinated concept.

The result is more than machinery: it is a reliable solution designed to improve product handling, efficiency, quality and long-term growth.

German engineering. International experience. Solutions designed around your operation.

Products & Services

FROM RAW PRODUCT INTAKE TO MARKET-READY PACKS

Upmann provides customised machinery and integrated solutions for the post-harvest processing and packaging of potatoes, onions, carrots, root vegetables and other technically suitable agricultural products.

Our portfolio covers:

• Product intake and gentle handling
• Washing, stone separation, drying and preparation
• Sorting and quality inspection
• Storage, buffering and controlled product flow
• Precise weighing and counting
• Packaging in paper, film, mesh, raschel, jute and pre-made bags
• Robotic feeding, repacking and end-of-line automation

Customers can start with one individual machine, modernise a specific bottleneck or develop a complete production line.

Every solution is configured according to the product, required capacity, target pack weights, packaging materials, available space and desired level of automation.

Our services include process analysis, line planning, customised engineering, mechanical and electrical design, manufacturing, assembly, commissioning and technical support.

Together with specialised partners, Upmann can integrate complementary technologies and deliver coordinated line concepts—from the arrival of the raw product to accurately weighed, professionally packed and market-ready products.

ENGINEERED AROUND YOUR OPERATION

Modular post-harvest and packing lines:

Your facility, product and business goals are not the same as everyone else’s. Your solution should not be standard either.

Upmann develops individual machines, automated production sections and complete lines for product intake, washing, preparation, sorting, weighing and packaging.

Every project begins with practical questions: What product do you handle? What capacity do you need? Which pack formats do you sell? How much space is available? Which process should be improved first?

Based on these answers, we engineer a solution that fits into your current operation and can grow with your business. From modernising one production stage to implementing a complete line, you decide where the process begins.

FROM FIELD CONDITIONS TO PACKING-READY PRODUCE

Washing, preparation and sorting systems:

Potatoes, carrots and other root vegetables may arrive from the field carrying soil, stones, surface moisture and significant variations in size. Before they can be packed, they need to be properly prepared.

Upmann provides systems for washing, stone separation, sedimentation, drying, conveying, inspection and sorting. Each system is configured according to the product, contamination level, required capacity and conditions of the production facility.

The objective is not simply to produce cleaner vegetables. It is to create a continuous and gentle process that supports quality inspection, reduces manual handling and prepares the product for efficient weighing and packaging.

From freshly harvested produce to a product prepared for the market.

EVERY KILOGRAM COUNTS

Upmatic weighing systems

When a bag should contain 5 kg, consistently giving away additional product reduces the margin on every sale. Underfilling can result in complaints and damage customer confidence.

Upmatic systems create accurate and consistent portions of potatoes, onions, carrots and other suitable products.

The portfolio ranges from simple and semi-automatic solutions to high-performance weighers for small and medium-sized consumer packs and larger sacks. The equipment can be connected to packaging machines for mesh, film, paper, pre-made bags or sacks.

Each system is selected according to the product, target weight, required output and level of automation. Better weighing is not only about working faster. It is about maintaining greater control over every product sold.

Packaging solutions for different products and formats

Packaging is one of the key stages at the end of a processing line. Upmann therefore develops solutions that can be adapted to the product characteristics, presentation format, required capacity and desired level of automation.

Upmann machines can handle a wide range of packaging formats, including paper bags, film bags, pre-made wicket bags, net bags, Raschel and jute sacks, trays, crates and different secondary packaging solutions.

Depending on the application, the systems can incorporate different filling, closing, labelling and downstream handling methods. Finished packages can also be automatically placed into crates, cartons or reusable containers for subsequent storage and distribution.

This flexibility makes it possible to develop solutions for products such as potatoes, onions, carrots, fruits, vegetables and many other fresh or bulk products, adapting each line to the required weight, packaging format, capacity and operating conditions.

Net packaging with clip closure

For products that require ventilation, visibility and practical presentation, Upmann offers net packaging solutions with automatic clip closure.

The Upmatic Clipper 3006 receives the previously weighed product, fills it into the net and automatically closes and separates each package. This allows weighing and packaging to be integrated into one continuous and efficient process.

This packaging format is particularly suitable for fresh products such as potatoes, onions and other agricultural products and can be adapted to different net dimensions and production requirements. The system can also be combined with labelling, allowing product information or branding elements to be incorporated directly into the package.

Rather than operating only as a stand-alone machine, the Clipper can be integrated into a complete Upmann line, together with feeding, conveying, weighing and product-handling systems to create a process tailored to the requirements of each operation.
